RETURNED SOLDIERS

LOCAL EXECUTIVE MEETS. At a meeting of the Executive of the Returned Soldiers’ Association on Monday night. Messrs G. F. Myers (chairman), W. Drake, H. Parker, H. L. Cooper, B. W. Hewat, and Rev. J Chisholm, and the secretary (Mr L. S. Graham) were present. A communication from headquarters was received with reference to the Stock Scheme and stating that applications for bulls are to be in the hands of the General Secretary at Wellington by June 30. Twenty-three animals are available this year under the following terms:—£l on application and £4 on allotment, animals to be delivered by the end of July, all transport charges being borne by the successful applicants. —Received.

A sub-committee consisting of Revs. J. Chisholm, H. G. Gilbert and J. A. Lush, and Messrs Myers and McCarroll were appointed to consider the question of any alterations to the theatre service in connection with Anzac Day celebrations, and to make recommendations at an early date. With reference to the Children’s Service in the Drill Hall the opinion was expressed that this was entirely satisfactory and no alterations were necessary. Regarding the Cadet Service, it was decided to hold the service in conjunction with the theatre services as in former years. It was also decided to, in future, communicate with headmasters and school committees regarding the Anzac Day addresses in schools.

The question of the advisability of reopening the billiard room in connection with the Soldiers’ Club was brought up and it was decided to call a general meeting at an early date to deal with the matter. With reference to unemployment, it was decided that the question as to what date the subsidisation scheme should be put in operation should be left to the emergency committee to deal with.

Accounts amounting to £26 2/9 were passed for payment.
