Rickard will announce the time and place after the democratic convention. It will probably be held in Boyle’s Thirty Acres, Jersey City. The heavyweights have agreed to meet on a percentage basis. A telegram from Los Angeles says that 500,000 dollars have been offered for a mixed bout between Jack Dempsey, the heavyweight, and Strangler Lewis, the champion wrestler, by the Athletic Club, Knox (Indiana). The suggested date is August 16. Sporting writers are to be ask*id to fix the rules of the contest. CRICKET. COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS. LONDON, June 23. (Received June 23, 8.50 p.m.) In County cricket the scores at the close of the second day were: Surrey 388 for 9 wickets (declared), and Oxford 311 (Knott 65, Blaikie 75), Surrey 155 for 3 wickets (Sandham 70 not out), Middlesex 470 for 8 wickets declared closed (Dales 69, Haig 68, Hearne 116) v. Essex 28 for one wicket; Sussex 192 (Tate 102 not out, Robinson taking six for 87).,Yorkshire 283 for two wickets (Holmes 83, Sutcliffe 148 not out). Kent made 349 (Hubble 65 not out), and Notts 465 for 6 wickets (George Gun 98, Payton 68, Whysall 151). In the match Somerset v. Derby, -Somerset scored 477. Lyon failed to increase yesterday’s score of 219.
