NOT SO POPULAR

BRITAIN’S LABOUR GOVERNMENT. RISING TIDE OF OPPOSITION. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (The Times.) LONDON, June 22. (Received June 23, 5.5 pjn.) The Times in a leader says: Opposition is silently but surely rising against the Empire policy of the MacDonald Cabinet, which has dealt three blows at the very unity of the Empier, namely, abandonment of the Singapore base, the abandonment of the McKenna Duties, and the rejection of the Preference Resolutions. The especially narrow majorities by which the resolutions were defeated provided interesting evidence that unexpected eyes were being opened by a new alarm, and felt danger, adding another to so many lost opportunities. Indeed there is everywhere evidence of a growing movement in favour of the acceptance of a Conservative policy, strengthening and developing the ties of Empire.
