THE GERMAN VIEW

A SATISFACTORY SOLUTION. EVACUATION OF RUHR. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (The Times.) LONDON, June 22. The Berlin correspondent of the Times •ays Germany undoubtedly intends to pin M. Herrim to the promise that the military evacuation of the Ruhr will commence as soon as the Expert’s report is actually put into operation. Speaking at Dessau Dr Stresemann said he welcomed M. Herriot’s declaration which would mean the restoration of the status quo, if simultaneously other areas, occupied in contravention of the Versailles Treaty, were also evacuated. If to this were added restoration of the economic and financial sovereignty of Germany, the door between occupied and unoccupied Germany would be opened once more and the unity of the Reich, for which Germany had been struggling ever since the conclusion of peace, would be preserved. Germany in return would give a fair performance of the conditions attached to the Experts’ reports if France was willing to live side by side with Germany as a peaceful neighbour. Everybody in Germany would welcome this as a necessary preliminary to the peaceful development of Europe.
