PROHIBITION QUESTION
ALLIANCE INTERVIEWS PARLIAMENTARIANS. THE THIRD ISSUE. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Jun© 19. A large deputation from the New Zealand Alliance met a number of'Members of Parliament this morning to discuss licensing legislation. Mr Falkiner, President of the local Prohibition Committee, said every candidate at next election would be expected to make some statement, regarding his stand on the liquor question, and his statement would be published by the Alliance, which wished the issues confined to Continuance and Prohibition. Mr Harris stated that an honourable understanding existed between the liquor party and the Prohibitionists that there should be a third issue, namely, State Control. Mr Falkiner said this had repeatedly bw denied. Mr Lee said he would state his viewi when he knew what was proposed. 'Fhe policy of the Labour Party would be hig policy. Mr Jordan said the Labour Party had no policy on the liquor question. Personally he favoured a bare majority on a straight out issue, but if one section of the people though! corporate control should be submitted, then it should be. He was prepared to support the transferable vote. Mr Bartram said he was an out and out Prohibitionist, but the principles of democracy would, always come first with him.
