TWO RETIREMENTS PROBABLE. MATTER TO BE CONSIDERED BY PARTY. (Per United Press Association). WELLINGTON, May 7. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, Minister for Defence, who has been ordered by his medical adviser to take a complete rest, left Wellington for the South Island to-night and will be away for some weeks. In the meantime his various portfolios have been allocated as follows:—Forestry, Sir Francis Bell; Defence, Hon. W. Downie Stewart; War Pensions, State Fire, Government Life Insurance, Superannuation and Friendly Societies, Hon G. J. Anderson.

The announcement was made some time ago that Sir R. Heaton Rhodes and Hon. Hon. D. H. Guthrie, Minister of Landa, would retire from political life at the close of the present Parliament, and in Reform circles the question of consequent Cabinet changes is being discussed. It is believed that the matter wiH be considered by the Prime Minister and his party at the opening of the coming session of Parliament.
