A REMARKABLE CASE

TWICE STRUCK DUMB AND CURED. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) LONDON, February 16. (Received February 17, at 7.5 p.m.) During the war Percy Bottomley, of Bradford, was blown up by a German shell, was wounded, struck speechless and remained so for eighteen months, despite treatment at hospitals in France, Ireland and England. Then suddenly his speech returned. Bottomley was demobilised, married and worked as a traveller. Later when making a business visit to London he received a telegram announcing the sudden death of his wife. Bottomley again became dump and remained so until a few days ago when playing football at Bradford. Owing to the excitement of the game he suddenly shouted out, “Leave the ball alone, it’s mine.” The match was stopped and the players and spectators joined in congratulating him. His speech is now rapidly improving.
