SPURIOUS DEGREES
AMERICAN MEDICAL SCANDAL. DOCTOR’S DIPLOMAS FOR CASH. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) NEW YORK, November 19. A scandal involving physicians in nearly every State in the Union, has been disclosed as the result of investigation regarding the medical college operating in Kansas City, which sold diplomas for cdSh instead of granting them after the completion of a fixed course of study. Graduates numbering probably 25,000 assumed residence in the various States, in many cases sending substitutes to take the State examinations which are necessary before obtaining a license to practice. They were thus able to become accredited physicians. It is now charged that many attending as house physicians in the best known hospitals in New York, Boston, Chicago, Hartford and other large cities are holders of faked diplomas. Extraordinary grand juries are investigating the charges in Kansas City and Hartford and steps are being taken to trace the venal graduates wherever practising.
