PEACE AGREEMENT
THE ALLIES AND TURKEY (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LAUSANNE, July 9.' The agreement in principle was arrived at on the following basis; the Allies to agree to refrain from insistence on the currency in which the Ottoman debt still be paid, without such an attitude precluding them from maintaining that private contracts between Turkey and her creditors cannot be modified, except by agreement between Turkey and the Ottoman bondholders. On the question of concessions the agreement recognises contracts made from before October 29, 1914. The agreement also restores war material belonging to the Turks which had fallen into the Allies’ hands. RELIEF IN TURKEY. CONSTANTINOPLE, July 9. (Received July 11, 12.5 a.m.) The Council of Commissaries instructed Ismet Pasha to sign peace on an established basis. A proclamation will be issued to-morrow, informing the population of the settlement. The news was received in all Turkish quarters with relief and satisfaction.
