A PRACTICE ROUND. LONDON, June 18. (Received June 18, 5.5 p.m.) Havers and Gadd played a four-ball 36hole match against Kirkwood and Barnes at Gleneagles. Barnes struck form in the first round, wherein Kirkwood’s play was patchy. The match was all square at the end of the round. Both the best ball scores were 67. The match ended all square. CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. LIMITING THE ENTRIES. (Per United Press Association). WELLINGTON, June 19. At the New Zealand Golf Association Council meeting a draft of the proposed programme for the championship tournament was submitted by the Wanganui Golf Club. After full consideration the Council decided in view of the hard programme outlined, and the Council’s desire that players shall not be asked to play either too early or too late to limit the number of entries to be received from amateurs for the qualifying rounds to 70. It was decided that all golfers entering for the amateur championship shall first secure from the New Zealand Golf Council their national handicap, and no competitor entering shall be accepted for either amateur or open if his national handicap was more than 13 (stroke play).
