FOOTBALL

X TO-DAY’S MATCHES. The Rugby Union have set down for decision two stirring matches for the opening of the Wednesday Galbraith Shield Competition. The Star-Marist conflict, which will commence at 2.30 p.m., should attract a record attendance at Rugby Park. Both teams will field sides identical with those played in the Saturday competitions, and as they are now playing excellent football, one of the best games seen on the Park for some time is confidently expected. The Green backs have improved out of all recognition during the past month, and with a strong forward side to assist them, will, without doubt, give a good account of themselves. The second match between the re-organised Winton fifteen and Invercargill will commence at 2.45 p.m., and should

prove an interesting and close match.— (Advt.)
