A NEW KNIGHT

SIR FREDERICK CHAPMAN CONGRATULATED. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 12. General approval of the high honour conferred in the Knighthood to Mr Justice Chapman found expression at the Supreme Court to-day, when members of the Bar publicly tendered their congratulations. Sir Robert Stout and Sir John Salmond were associated with Sir Frederick Chapman on the Bench and the Court was crowded with a most representative gathering of the legal fraternity. The President of the Wellington Law Society congratulated Sir F. Chapman on the honour conferred, which members of the Bar thought was richly deserved. Mr Skerrett, K.C. Mr Izard (Wanganui), and the Chief Justice also extended congratulations. Sir R. Stout said Sir F. Chapman had not only inherited his father’s ability as a judge, but also his father’s scholarly qualities and kindly feeling. He had given the benefit of his learning to the community in many ways. Sir F. Chapman, after some interesting reminiscences, thanked the Bar for their congratulations.
