SOCIALIST OBJECTIVE

ALLEGATIONS OF FAKED BALLOT BOXES. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright). (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association). SYDNEY, June 11. The Labour Conference carried the Brisbane resolution favouring socialisation of industry, distribution and exchange. An exciting debate followed a statement by a delegate that a thousand spurious ballot papers were issued for the selection ballot for the Sydney seat in January, 1920, ballot boxes with a sliding panel being allegedly used. Mr Neilin (the chairman), stated that a committee was enquiring into the matter but had not finished investigations. It had" secured sufficient evidence to go into any court. It had been established that a number of ballot boxes with sliding panels had been made and delivered. They were used in the selection ballot but whether manipulated or not he could not say. Mr Willis added that he secured a ballot box used in the elections of the last executive and discovered it had a sliding panel. He produced this box for examination. However, the committee had no reason whatever to believe the •box was corruptly used in the election of the executive. It was intended to probe the matter to the bottom and if necessary take legal action.
