WORK AT LUXOR

STATEMENT BY MR CARTER. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright). (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, June 8. Mr Howard Carter has returned from Cairo. He will resume work at Luxor during the winter. Mr Carter declares that as far as he is concerned he will not remove the King's mummy should it be found in the unopened inner chamber. “Lady Carnarvon,” he stated, “intends to continue where her husband finished. She will not abandon excavations. Only a quarter of the work is completed. Great treasures are certain to be discovered.” Mr Carter is impatient with the talk about occult influence. He says that there are no “spooks” guarding the tombs, not even according to the superstitions of the ancient Egyptians. Mr Carter himself is remarkably fit after thirty-two years of excavation work.
