WORK AND WAGES

WATERSIDERS TO PAY. SEQUEL TO RECENT JUDGMENT. (Per United Press Association). WELLINGTON, June 8. The question put to members of the Wellington Workers’ Union at a ballot to-day was, “Are you in favour of a settlement with Gould, McGee, Tilley, and Kavanagh on a basis outlined in the secretary’s report given members at the stop-work meeting on June 5?” The ballot affected the question of arriving at a settlement of the Union’s liability following a judgment in the Supreme Court for £2OB and costs each for plaintiffs. The voting resulted: Yes, 530; No, 398. The Union will now meet judgment on terms agreed to by the parties. Three hundred and fifty out of about 1300 did not vote. If the ballot had gone against a settlement, the Union would have gone out of existence and the Official Receiver would have taken charge of affairs.
