CHILDREN AND LANDLORDS (To the Editor.) Sir, —In your issue of this morning, af>> pears a paragraph headed “Landlords’ Ban On Children,” describing how owners of houses refuse to let them to people with children. I have every sympathy with the landlords, and think they have good cause fcr their action. Some weeks ago the proprietor of a boarding house was telling me of his experience. He had been induced to accept as boarders a lady with two or three children. The children were allowed by their mother to do exactly as they their conduct in the living rooms was disgraceful, and in the bedroem it was disgustingly dirty. I have known of a small child visiting a friend’s house with one of its parents, and smashing crockery, destroying furniture, trampling the only remonstrance being: “You are a naughty boy!” So long as obedience, and consideration for others are items that have no place in the training of children, so long, I say, that landlords and the general public are justified in telling parents to keep their nuisance to themselves.—l am, etc., OLD SCHOOL, Invercargill, June 7, 1923.
