FELDWICK BEQUEST
QUESTION OF MEMORIAL POSTPONED. A public meeting was held in the Town Hall on Wednesday for the purpose of further considering the proposal to erect a memorial to the late Mr John Feldwick, who left a bequest of £20,000 for improving Queen’s Park. There were present Messrs C. S. Longuet (chairman), E. R. Wilson, J. Miller, S. McDonald, S. Rabbidgc, E. Sheehan, J. Stevenson and Dr Barclay. An apology for absence was received from the Mayor, Mr A. Bain. At the first meeting held last week the idea of erecting a memorial was approved and last night’s meeting was called for the purpose of discussing what form the memorial should take and to consider ways and means of raising the money necessary. In view of the small attendance, however, it was considered inadvisable to come to any decisions in regard to these matters and in view of the call to be made upon the public for further subscriptions towards the Soldiers’ Memorial, it was decided to postpone the project to a later date. A motion was also carried recommending to the Council the erection of a suit able entrance to the Park.
