CLEVER BUYING

A LUCKY PURCHASE FOR SOUTHLAND The announcement made yesterday morning that the stock of a Dunedin Warehouseman had been bought by the Progressive Stores was sufficient excuse for a newspaper man to inquire at the stores for some further information about the stock. Fortunately, Mr Smith returned on Wednesday night, and he was only too pleased to tell about his lucky purchase. “Yes,” replied Mr Smith in answer to a question. “It is a beautiful stock, and you will gain some of the idea of the values when I say that there is a line of pure wool dress tweeds and heavy coatings, 56in wide, and the manufacturer’s cost varies from 8/- to 18/6 per yard, which we will clear out to the public at 2/11 and 3/11. Another line that should make the housewives’ eyes gleam are 500 beautiful wadded quilts, in three sizes, and splendid quality, which cost the Dunedin merchant from 17/6 to 30/-. These will be sold at 15/6, 17/6, and 25/-. I could talk for an hour, and you could easily fill your paper about the different lines, but I’m sure once the people see the goods in the windows they will rush them. One thing that is puzzling me,” continued Mr Smith, “is how we are to give everybody a chance to get a piece of some English flannel. There is only one bale, and while it cost the merchant 2/8 a yard, we will offer it at 1/-, but we are stipulat■r" .that nobody can buy more than twelve •'■“as; of course it won’t go round, but by '"■cing the quantity it will go further, “•d. stuff is on the way now, and as soon me goods are marked they will be disi <*jed in the Kelvin Street windows, and 11k public will know the bargains by the New Aeroplane signs on windows.” - 'Advt.)
