Medical authorities deprecate the alarmist statement regarding an influenza epidemic, and declare that it is the ordinary type usually prevalent in winter. In some cases pneumonia intervened, but no cases of a pneumonic character have been officially reported. ANOTHER REPORT. A GRAVER VIEW OF THE POSITION. MELBOURNE, June 7. (Received June 7, 10.15 p.m.). It is now stated that there are 13 cases of pneumonic influenza in the Melbourne Hospital. The medical authorities take a grave view of the position, but are most guarded in their statements in order to avoid creating a scare.
