LABOUR BUREAU
COMPLAINT ABOUT COST. (By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association). LONDON, June 6. (Received June 7, 1235 p.m.) As a sequel to the press allegation of extravagance in connection with the International Labour Bureau at Geneva, Captain Perrell, in the House of Commons, drew attention to the fact that the Bureau was costing British Taxpayers £30,000 yearly. He asked, in view of the absence of benefit to taxpayers, what were the prospects of reduction of this expenditure. Sir William Joynson-Hicks replied that it was largely as a result of British representations that the proposed estimates of the Bureau for 1924 had been reduced from £9,000,000 to £7,000,000 francs, and at a meeting of the governing body next week, the British representatives will propose two further reductions.
