tPer United Press Association )„ CHRISTCHURCH, May 10. 1 At the Supreme Court, Cyril Eugene Walden, and Norman Wilson, came up for sentence for theft from an hotel. Walden was sentenced to two years, and Wileon to three years’ imprisonment. Walden, w r ho pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to another charge, was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment, to be concurrent with his other sentence. John Stack, barman of the Grosvencr Hotel, who was found guilty of causing actual bodily harm, was fined £lO, the judge saying that there was no doubt that prisoner had had provocation. His Honour ordered that George Evans who had passed a valueless cheque; be declared an habitual criminal again, ’ and serve three years’ hard labour. Joseph Solomon, 17, for forgery was sentenced to three years’ reformative treatment. Stanley Taylor, for forgery six months’ imprisonment, and Robert’ MeLaugblan, theft, three .veers' imprisonment and dec., red an habitual criminal. WELLINGTON, May 10. At the Supreme Court in ihe charge against an elderly man, William Nott Gooday, charged with indecently assaulting a little girl at Petone, it was stated that accused was eighty years of age and had resided in New Zealand for 53 years. Prisoner stoutly denied the charge. The jury retired at 3.20 p.m. and returned at 8.30 when it was announced that they had disagreed. A new trial will take place after the hearing of the Cooper murder case. The Grand Jury returned a true bill in connection with the charge of alleged manslaughter preferred against Thomas Frances . Bailey regarding the death of a boy througii a motor car driven by prisoner colliding with him.
