In the third round of the Amateur Championship Tolley beat Marston, an American by three up and two to play after a notable game. Humphries beat Wright, another American, but Willing, Ouimet, Neville and Rotan reached the fourth round, also Weathered, Harris and Lassen and Hairy Braid. Surprise was caused by Douglas Grant, an American resident of Britain, beating Holderness two up and one to play. SOCCER. NEW ZEALAND VISIT TO AUSTRAIAA DOUBT ABOUT TEAM’S DEPARTURE. (Per United Press Association). WELLINGTON, May 10. At the meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Football Association to-night the secretary, Mr Salmon, reported that he had not yet received any information from Mr Storey, secretary of the New' South Wales Association, that passages for the New Zealand team to leave for Australia next Friday had been secured. All transport arrangements at this end had been made, including assembling the team in Wellington, but the shipping company advised that no passages had been booked. The chairman said that the position was grave and most unbusinesslike. It was decided .to send a cable to the effect that if berths were not secured by Saturday the team would be withdrawn.
