THE FREE STATE
GOVERNMENT’S SILENCE. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) LONDON, May 3. (Received May 3, 5.5 p.m.) Some surprise was manifested in Dublin at the fact that the Dail meeting passed without allusion to De Valera’s proclamation, especially since the entire absence of irregular outrages, shows that bis onesided truce had been put into operation. The Free State Government, however, is apparently determined to ignore the effusion, at any rate for the time being. Rebels are still being harried and hunted, which the Government emphasised by issuing details of a considerable number of arrests. Though somewhat puzzling on the surface the Government’s attitude follows logically its determination to suppress the revolt without compromise and refuses to be drawn into the controversy.
