GROCERS’ ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL MEETING At the annual meeting of the Invercargill Grocers’ Association yesterday morning, Mr J. Waugh presided over a small attendance of members. The annual report was as follows: “The year 1922-23 has been an uneventful one as far as the trade is concerned. The stabilising of prices for primary products has had a beneficial effect on trade in every department throughout New Zealand. A healthier tone prevails, and business on the whole has been good. Your executive hopes that every member has reaped the benefit of stabilised industry and has had a successful year. “It is gratifying to record a substantia! improvement in the financial position. Whereas at the commencement of the year there was a small debit balance, at * the present time we have a credit balance of £l2 0s Bd. There are yet several subscriptions for the year outstanding which it is hoped will be remitted in the near future. The better financial status is no doubt accounted for by the reorganising campaign carried out in the early part of the year, and thanks are due to those members who made it their personal duty to increase interest in their Association. Personal:—During the year your president, Mr J. McCulloch, found it necessary on account of pressing private business, to resign from the presidency, and Mr J Waugh was elected to the position. “Your executive members have maintained a lively interest in the needs of the Association, meeting regularly every fortnight, considering all matters of relative interest, and advising members of price alterations. Your executive is confident that every member appreciates the benefits derived from a strong organisation, and looks forward to an even larger membership roll in the coming year. It leaves a request with you that any suggesetion you have at any time for the good of the trade should be sent to the executive for their consideration. Advice is always welcome.”

The report was adopted. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—President, Mr J. Waugh; vicepresidents, Messrs I. Jenkins, C. L. Richards, committee, Messrs J. McCrostie, Rose. A. Anderson, J. F. McCulloch, Bulling, J. Hamilton: hon. auditor, Mr Davies. Messrs J. Waugh and J. McCrosrie were appointed to represent the Association on the Employers’ Association.
