THE OTIRA TUNNEL
WORK PROCEEDING APACE. (Special to the Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 2. The chairman of the Railway of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, reporting on his visit of inspection to the Otira teannel works, says that since his last visit there has been a marked advance. The works are substantial and solid, a layman might perhaps think over-massive and therefore unduly expensive, but. if there is any faxdt it is on the right side. There is no chance of the tunnel being opened by the end of the year, as after all works are completed it is expected that it will take three months to test all the electrical appliances, so in all probability it will l>e
