DAIRY PRODUCE EXPORT
PROSPECT OF GOVERNMENT CONTROL FEWER ORDERS FROM LONDON (Special to the Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 2. Because of the probability of the Government control in the export of dairy produce, orders from London for private shipment are stated to have fallen off. Any orders now being received are purely specu lative and all are hedged with various con ditions regarding shipment. Offers applying to October shipment have just been extended to November 15. This is some concession, but in the ordinary course contracts for several months ahead would have been completed by the present stage of the season. Allotments for the shipment in October of butter and cheese were originally exceptionally heavy. The allotment of butter ' was for 419,000 boxes and for cheese 43,850 crat.es. However, the sailings of the , Waimana and Durham, vessels which w< i- i to carry a portion of this cargo, have now I been deferred until November. Taking this into conrideralion lhe expected shin- ' ments in October are as follows, a compari ' son with last year also being given. October October . 1922 1921 | Butter (boxes) 290,000 133,869 [ [ Cheese (crates) 18,850 The large allotment of butter shows that i factories are anxious to. ship before any Government control operates. The effect of this large allotment was to cause London buyers to reduce their offers. Prices reached 1/9 a lb., f.0.b., net. but the rates have now been reduced to 1/71. The market for cheese is ,however, very firm. Lesser quantities of cheese are now being made, as many factories with dual plants are manufacturing butter. The offers for cheese arc from 8d to a lb., f.0.b., net.
