A Wellington Press Association telegram states the Government has appointed Messrs Herbert Burton, G. T. Murray, L. Mclntosh Ellis and J. D. Ritchie, all of Wellington, and Hugh Munro, of Auckland, as a com-mission-to enquire into and report upon (1) the extent of traffic which may reasonably be expected to fee conveyed over the railway which the Government has been requested by petition to construct between Rotorua and Taupo; (2) the probability of the railway returning sufficient revenue to meet working expenses and pay 4 per cent, on the cost of construction; (3) the extent of country which would be srved by such railway and the suitability of the country for settlement purposes; (4) the route which should bo adopted if the construction of the railway is decided upon, and generally whether the construction of such railway is desirable and warranted by the public interest. The commission is to report to the Government not later than July 31 jwxt.
