N.Z. RAILWAY FARES.

To the Editor. Sir,—With your kind permission will you allow me a few lines in your valuable paper? Now a few months ago the Minister of Railways made a statement that the freight charges and railway fares were to come down. I want to know if he is going to wait until a week before the election and then bring them down or is he going to continue running empty trains at a loss to the country. Also when he starts to run excursion trains he will have to cater for the public a little. Better take, for instance, the last excursion to the Riverton Races. The return excursion fare was 5/9 when you could go by motor right to the course for 5/-. —I am, etc., “WAKE UP.” Invercargill, May 15.
