JEWEL THIEF’S SQUIRT

Walking into the shop of Messrs Martin and Co., jewellers, of Cheltenham, a man, aged about 30, asked for a glass to be fitted to his watch. While waiting he' inquired the price of a diamond ring he had seen in the window. Mr Symonds, the principal salesman, brought the tray to the counter, and while he was showing the man the rings he was temporarily blinded by some liquid squirted into his eyes. Seizing the’ tray the man ruahed out, followed by two assistants. Although the street was filled with people the thief mounted a motor-cycle which had been left in a by-street and got clear away.
