THE TIDES. MAY 15.

PORT OF BLUFF. S.s. Waikouaiti, 3926 tons (Captain Ryan) arrived from Sydney after a good voyage at 10 p.m. yesterday. She carries a large deck cargo, including coal, melons and chemicals. On account of the plague restrictions, It is doubtful whether a Leghorn rooster consigned to Oamaru will be allowed to land. After discharging a cargo of hardwood poles she will sail for Dunedin. S.s. Calm arrived from Dunedin at 4 p.m. yesterday to discharge 200 tons of rargo before sailing -or Oamaru. The following appointments nave been made to her staff:—Chief Officer, Mr R. Manson; second officer, Mr S. Dee chief engineer, Mr W. Douglas; second engineer, Mr Ritson; third engineer, Mr R. Moffat (formerly of Invercargill). S.s. Kakapo is expected to arrive from Greymouth at 5 a.m. to-day. S.s. Matakana left Wellington for Bluff at 7 o’clock yesterday morning. THE TASMANIA IN DOCK. When the Port Chalmers dock was pumpid dry on Saturday morning water rushed out of the bottom _-f the oversea steamer Tasmania, which was damaged al Bluff last week, says the Evening Star. The damage is on the p-.-rt side underneath the navigating bridge, about half way between the keel and Uie round of the bilge. Two plates were damaged. Across the plate nearest the bilge is a groove cut out of the metal as though it had been gouged oiit with a chisel. At the midship end of this groove, where the plate is riveted to the next plate the water was gushing out. The next plate had a dent across it at a butt strap, and the water was rushing through a hole in ths dented plate. The damage had evidently been caused by a very hard rock on tie bottom of the harbour. Surveyors examined the damage as soon as the dock was dry, with a view to deciding whether it would be necessary to remove the damaged plates, or whether overall patches would meet the exigencies of the position. The Waimarino, from Calcutta, via Singapore and Samarang, was fixed to leave Newcastle at the end of last week for Auckland, where she is due on May 20. She will later call at Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin to complete discharge and is due at Dunedin at the end of this month. The Island steamer Flora left Auckland on Monday afternoon for Rarotonga and Tahiti, where she will load a cargo of fruit for Auckland. Owing to the Island steamer Navua having to return to Auckland last week to have another propeller fitted, her departure from Auckland next trip for Fiji, Samoa and Tonga has been fixed for May 29. CANADIAN GOVERNMENT LINE. The Canadian Constructor, from America and Can an di an Ports, via Australia, is due at Bluff on Tuesday to discharge and load for New York, Boston and Montreal. She is due at Dunedin about Wednesday and will then proceed to Lyttelton, Wellington and Auckland to continue loading and discharging. The Canadian Miller? from American ports, via Australia and Port Kembla, will reach Dunedin earlier than expected and is due there to day to discharge about 200 tons of general cargo. She is to sail on Tuesday for Timaru. Messrs H. L. Tapley 4 Co. have now been appointed agents and stevedores for this fine at Timaru and Oamaru. in addition to the agencies at Bluff and Dunedin.
