PREFERENTIAL TARIFF
ENTRY OF BRITISH GOODS VIA AUSTRALIA. AN ORDER-IN-COUNCIL. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 7. An Order-in-Oounoil has been issued to bring into operation the arrangement made by the Minister of Customs with the Commonwealth Government that British goods transhipped or re-exported from Australia should come under the British Preferential tariff. The order sets out that goods produced or manufactured in a country the produce or manufacture of which arc entitled to be entered for duty under the British preferential tariff, which after Rhipment therefrom have entered into the commerce of the Commonwealth of Australia, shall be entitled to be entered for duty under the preferential tariff if the Collector of Customs of the port of entry is satisfied by the production of a certificate signed by an officer of Customs in Australia that the goods are the produce or manufacture of such first mentioned country In any special case the Collector at the port of entry may dispense with the production of the certificate and admit the goods under the British preferential tariff if he is fully satisfied by evidence produced to him that the goods have been produced or manufactured in a country the produce or manufacturers of which are entitled to be entered for duty under the British preferential tariff.
