APPENDICITIS
DR THACKER’S OPINION. ITS CAUSE AND CURE. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 1, A marked increase in the number of operations for appendicitis in and around Christchurch has been noted of late and has given rise to the belief that there was some seasonal causes for the complaint. This view is not shared by Dr Thacker,M.P., who told a reporter that increased operations were due to greater diagnostic skill, while appendicitis itself was chiefly due to a faulty diet. A groat deal more is known about appendicitis said Dr Thacker, and it is being better diagnosed. The tag reason for its occurrence is the estrangement of humanity—particularly in highly civilised parts—from the original diet of man. He should have more direct food from nature, fruit, fish, eggs, milk, butter, whole wheatmeal, bread, vegetables, poultry and a certain amouEt of meat with proper hygienic diet. Many cases of appendicitis would get better without an operation, but if they went back to the old diet they would have it again.
