MEAT PRODUCERS
LONDON REPRESENTATIVE MR JESSOP APPOINTED CHOICE GENERALLY APPROVED. (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 30. The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board has decided to request Mr J. S. Jessep, vice-chairman of the Board, to proceed to England on the business of the Board. Mr Jessep has agreed to the request and will leave for London towards the end of April. The Board decided to advertise for applications for the position of New Zealand manager for the Board.
It has now been decided that Mr Jessep shall proceed to England immediately on business connected with the Board. This may be taken as equivalent to an announcement that he has been appointed representative of the Board in England ant: that he will undertake the work of organisation.
The choice is said to be one mat should give the utmost satisfaction tn those concerned in the scheme. Though a comparatively young man, his age being 42, Mr Jessep has had considerable experience in the business of meat production, while at the same time, he possesses an intimate knowledge of shipping and the selling side of the trade. Until seven or eight years ago he was best known in Cani.e;oury, particularly in Ashburton district. He owned the Balaclava estate between Geral line anti Ashburton for many years, and was also owner of Manuka Point station ut the heyi of Kakaia Gorge. Besides being extensively engaged in farming operations in Canterbury for a number of years, he was for a time a fairly large exporter of frozen ineat on his own account from that district, and was also the largest operator in store stock on the coast of the South Island.
It is not Mr Jessep’s intention to remain permanently in the important position he has now undertaken, though this is a matter for the future. He has large fanning interests in New Zealand from widen’ lie doe, not intend to withdraw, but wnicii will be carried on under management during his absence. He realises the difficulties in the way of the Meat Producer’s Board. On his arrival in England he will address himself actively to the work of organisation which necessarily will make fullest demands upon his resources, experience and capabilities.
