WORK AND WAGES
AFFAIRS IN NEW ZEALAND. PETONE GASWORKS TROUBLE. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 21. The refusal of the Petone Borough Council to meet representatives of the Gasworkers’ Union in conference with the Minister of Labour presiding may lead to interesting developments. It has been stated already that the gasworks have been declared “black.” The possibility of industrial organisations connected with the Alliance of Labour being drawn into the dispute is not unlikely. This aspect of the matter is not believed to be under consideration. Affiliated with the Affiance are the wateraiders, drivers, Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, seamen and miners. It is suggested that action may be taken to prevent the Petone gasworks obtaining supplies of coal. WELLINGTON WHARF DISPUTE. WELLINGTON, June 21. The National Waterside Disputes Committee this afternoon agreed on a proposal with regard to discharging the Alice A. Leigh with aid of skips, which will be submitted to the coalworkers’ section of the union to-morrow Vorning.
