GISBORNE COLLISION

WHAKATANE BERTHED AT AUCKLAND. (Per United Press Associatioi... AUCKLAND, May 19. The Whakatane was berthed this morning, she will probably unload a small quantiy of cargo in No. 4 hold to permit an inspection of the damage. Captain Davies declined to make any statement, pending the nautical inquiry. THE ADMIRAL CODRINGTON. DAMAGE NOT SERIOUS. GISBORNE, May 19. Mr McCarthy, consulting engineer to the Meat Company, states that the damage to the Admiral Codrington is much less than was expected. It is proposed to effect temporary repairs. The vessel’s stem is twisted from the 25 feet mark to the 15 feet downward. A few plates are strained .and rivets torn, only. TEMPORARY REPAIRS. GISBORNE, May 19. Further examination shows that the stern of the Admiral Codrington can easily be temporarily repaired to enable her to go home. The stern is twisted and bulged out at the back and sides, but only the first row of plates on each side isaffected. The damage started at the water line and goes down about twelve feet. Very little water has been made, and is not troublesome. The damage is somewhat similar to that inflicted on the Waimate when the Arahura collided with her.
