A COSTLY WRANGLE

WELLINGTON GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL SITE. BUILDING GRANT NOT AVAILABLE. (Special to the Times.) Wellington, May 13. Wellington is threatened with a practical demonstration of the Government's financial difficulties. The Minister of Education undertook some time ago to provide £50,000 for the new Girls’ High School. A site was selected and a little preliminary work was done. Then a local controversy started on the question of site and has raged fiercely ever since, with the result that work has been held up. Representatives of all the contending parties met to-day with the object of reaching a decision, and were dismayed to receive an unofficial intimation that probably the money would not now be available. In consequence of the financial stringency all the available money is required for works actually in hand.
