PETITION BY SHOPKEEPERS KING’S BIRTHDAY DIFFICULTY The retail drapers, grocers, butcher* and bakers have forwarded a telegram to the Minister, the Hon, G. J. Anderson, requesting that owing to the inconvenience that will be caused by the King’s Birthday falling on Friday, June 3, the second Saturday in June be gazetted as the date on which the Saturday half-holiday shall come into operation. GISBORNE POLL CHALLENGED. (Per United Press Association.) GISBORNE, May 13. Regarding the half-holiday poll, which ro* suited in a victory for Saturday by one vote, a petition has been lodged to test its validity, the grounds including that two or more electors did not Receive voting papers on that issue.
