GENERAL BIRDWOOD
VISIT TO INVERCARGILL. The Mayor, Mr John Stead, yesterday received the following letter from the Minister of Internal Affairs: - "I have the honour to advise that according to the present arrangements General Sir William Hirdwood, accompanied by his wife and daughter, will arrive in Invercargill at 2.6 inn. on Tuesday, June X. During our distinguished visitor’s stay in Invercargill I p r esutne you will desire to extend him a civic welcome, and that the returned soldiers, who have been communi rated with by the military authorities, will also wish to entertain hint. The party will leave Invercargill for Queenstown at 7 a.m. on Wednesday. June ti. I shall be glad to hear from you til your early convenience regarding the particulars of your proposed programme.”
The matter will come before the Council at its next meeting.
