i j REQUEST FOR A BONUS

| WELLINGTON, April 29. I ]n view of the fact that an announee- ■ ineut has been made of the payment to various departments of the Civil Service of a cost of living bonus, and that no similar announcement has been made to members of the leaching profession, the following t-elcgram was to-day despatched to the Minister of Education: “We observe a statement in the press that a bonus is being paid to officers of various departments of the Civil Service, but no similar announcement has been made regarding teachers. We trust that in justice to a ; class of public servants who in many in- : stances live in conditions most unfavour - I able, you will safeguard their interests by I arranging for the simultaneous payment ;of a bonus to them also.
