The latest election returns for the House are:— Nationalists 31 Labour 22 Farmers 3 Doubtful 19 Probably the result of the doubtful will be: Nine Nationalists, five Labour, and five Farmers. On the referendum “No’’ is still lending, except in Victoria and Queensland, where ‘Wes” is leading on both questions, and in West Australia, where ‘‘Yes” is leading on monopolies. The Senate voting now shows the possibility of the whole IS vacancies being filled by Nationalists. FARMERS’ POSITION IMPROVED. SYDNEY, December 16. Received December 16, IPIO p.m. As counting Progressives it becomes more apparent that the Farmers’ representatives will be a very important factor in the new Federal Parliament, holding the balance of power. Their position has improved since yesterday. They are now holding four seats and leading in seven. The second preference votes in three electorates where Labour was leading will probably result in the return of three further Fanners’ candidates.
