SHIPPING POSITION
IMPROVEMENT IN POSITION. PRIME MINISTER’S STATEMENT. (Special to the Tunes). WELLINGTON, August 15. Indications of an early improvement in the shipping situation, with special icfercnce to the frozen meat industry, were given by Mr Massey replying to a deputation of fanners to-day. Mr Massey said that to reduce the amount of meat in store to the amount of 4,000,000 carcases by the end of the year, some 2,000,000 carcases would have to be shipped during October, November and December. So far as he could see this would be possible. To do it eight ships per month for the three months would be needed and present indications were that the ships would be available. During August there would be on the berth the following vessels;— Mahia, Port Fine, Armagh, Shropshire, Ruapehu, Port Napier, Orari, Otira, Matatua, Waimate and Opaua. Still to some, but the dates of their arrival not yet definitely known were:— Essex, Mamari, Port Hacking, Durham, Port Lyttelton, Waiwera and A theme. In September the following ships were scheduled to arrive:—Karamea, Port Melbourne, Port Victor, Kumara, H<jrc*ata, Kaikoura, Ajana, Corinthic, Tainui, Zealandic, Port Alma, and Port Syneg.
