A. & P. ASSOCIATION
DEBT REDUCTION FUND. The Southland A. and P. Association have for some years been labouring under the burden of a heavy debt to the bank and to debenture-holders. It was hoped that when the new grounds were opened there would be a considerable amount of revenue coining in from the letting of them for “port*, etc., but unfortunately the war put; an end to all such hopes for the time being, and although 'he grounds have been used frequently, it >ts always been for patriotic put poses and no revenue to the Association has been forthcoming. The Directors, realising that the finances must be placed on a better footing, instituted a canvass among su]) orters, asking either for a cash donation or that holders of debentures should throw them in. At the outset, the Stock Agents’ Association promised £ISOO, provided the total raised reached £BSOO. This sum has now been promised and the £ISOO can be claimed. It is not the Directors’ intention to stop at this figure, as they anticipate getting £IO,OOO when the district is wholly canvassed, and judging from the support already accorded them there should be no difficulty in reaching this amount. It is interesting to read how this huge sum was given. In addition to the £ISOO already mentioned there was one donation of £260, one of £250, ten of £2OO, ten of £IOO, 29 of £SO; this makes a total of £64.60 from 52 subscribers—surely a record to be proud of. The canvass is being pushed on with and it is hoped that the £IO,OOO mark will be reached in a few weeks’ time. The Society will be pleased to receive either a cheque or a debenture from any member who has not yet subscribed. It is all for the good of Southland.
