RED CROSS SOCIETY

At ,the fortnightly meeting of tlie Society Miss Thomson presided. The secretary reported that during the previous fortnight 49 cases had been sent to Dunedin, containing 185 undervests, 105 sets pyjamas, 166 day shirts, 72 drawers’ heels, 2 dressing gowns, 28 rugs, 11 hospital nightshirts, 66 Cardigans, 66 underpants. 176 pairs daysocks, 94 scarves, 70 body belts, 20 pairs operation stockings, 17 pairs slippers, 1 waistcoat, 2 nurse’s aprons, and 4069 articles for the ambulance department, also 4 4 cases condensed milk. Miss Thomson, Mrs Watson, and Miss Blrss were appointed delegates to the annual conference at Dunedin on June 1, and several remits were passed for discussion at the conference. The sum of £4 10s was forwarded for comforts for the sick in the military hospitals in New Zealand. From information received it appears that the hospitals at Home are feeling the shortage of food, and a large amount of meat extract will be sent by the first boat available.

The Rod Cross Fairy Competition is attracting a great deal of attention, and all interested in the work of the Red Cross will be needed to help on street days and by selling badges and getting

up other ways of entertainment.
