The two brothers were, therefore, wounded within two days; possibly both were wounded in the same action, as though Lieut. After the South African war he settled down in South Africa, and at the outbreak of this war enlisted in the Natal Light Horse and served under General Botha through the campaign in German SouthWest Africa. By the time operations were successfully completed there he had risen to the rank of Sergeant. Along with Lieut. Hugh Tennent, then also a Sergeant, he came over to New Zealand. Both enlisted in the N.Z. Advices indicate that Lieut!, Hugh Tennent may be invalided home to New Zealand.
