THE SCHOOLS BOTTLE SCHEME
33,257 COLLECTED TO DATE. The eight schools engaged in the Bottle Gathering Scheme for Red Cross Funds were, fully represented at the Rugby Union’s rooms this morning, when the first instalment of medicine bottles ■was received and sorted. The school children have been busy during the week *nd some fine totals have been scored. On Thursday the. South School boys and girls had a half-holiday and, aided and directed by the teaching staff, made it a regular field day gathering in all over 32,000 bottles. One of the boys attending the Waihopal School has a record running into four figures to his credit, and has not nearly completed his work yet. Even the little children attending the Park side school are doing their share, having already collected over 2000, *nd the Clifton scholars will probably have the best record per pupil to date, though these figures are not possible this week as all the headmasters have not furnished the number of children on the rolls of their respective schools. Up to Friday night the totals were as follows: —■ South School .. 14,000 bottles Waibopai School 7,540 bottles Waikiwi School 3,174 bottles Clifton School . . 2,043 bottles Marist Bros’ School 1,950 bottles St. George School 1,551 bottles North School . . 1,384 bottles Middle School .. 1,312 bottles 33,357
