COMMERCIAL

TAUACETOWN STOCK SAXE.

AVERAGE YAP-DINGS

MEET WITH FAIR SAGE.

There were good entries in all classes for the weekly auction in the Wallacetown yards yesterday. Buyiers wore present in strong force, and the sale generally was as good as any since the holidays.

Yardings compare with those at the two previous sales thus: —

Jan. 30. Jan. 23. Jan. 16. Fat cattle . . 184 130 IBS Store cattle 450 120 450 Fat sheep .. 763 851 759 Store sheep 207 185 188

STORE CATTLK

The yarding was about the average, in both numbers and quality. A few lots were passed, but, before the day was over, by far the major part of the yarding had changed hands either at auction or privately. A nice line of three and four-year-old bullocks sold for £ll, whiic other values were; Three-year-old stuff, £ll 10/- to £l3; two-year-old, £8 10/- to £lO 10/-; with yearlings and 18inonthers from £5 to £7 10/-, according to size and quality.

FAT CATTLE,

The large yarding consisted of Hit, usual sorts and included a few extra prime bullocks besides some very nice cows. Butchers lifted a fair share of toe entry, and freezing men accounted for the remainder, which served to keep values up to the general standard which has been ruling of late. Ox beef made from 44/6 to 45/6; heifer, 42/6 to 43/6; ~"iw. 4C/- to 41/“

FAT SHEEP,

The good yarding was mostly cleared at auction. A few nice lambs were forward and these sold well up to ruling rates. All through, in fact, prices were practically the same as those offering a week ago, with perhaps a slight advance on prime wethers in the early stages of the sale. Butchers appeared to fill their programmes early, and practically onlyfreezing buyers were left in at the finish. Extra prime wethers were worth 35/6 to almost 37/-, with prime at from 31/to 3 4/6, and medium 30/- to 31/-. Extra prime ewes brought from 30/- up to 33/-; prime, 28/- to 29/-, and medium, 22/- to 23/6.

STORK SHEEP,

The yarding was a better one than had been seen for a few sales past, and the quality was well maintained throughout and prices showed no falling off. Firms report sales as follows:

CTOWCH ÜBCE MARKETS. CHRISTCHURCH, January 20. Although there is not a large quantity of wheat offering, millers are buying odd lines of Tuscan, either straight out at 5/6 at country stations, or subject to the Government price If fixed. it is expected that at the conference with Canterbury wheat-growers on Thursday, the Minister of Agriculture will state his intentions with regard to the price of wheat and flour. Farmers who have been offering their wheat say that the yield has been very disappointing. There are no oats offering, and little grass seed. For feed oats about 2/6 at country stations is offered, but more would be paid for heavy seed lines of either Algerians, Gartons, or Duns.
