AN APPRECIATION.
To the Editor, Sir, —There is at present on view in Mr Wren’s window lij Tay street an exhibition of paintings of exceptional originality from the brush of Mrs Hugh Tennent, In the study of Lydall (the heroine of Olive Schreiner's “The Story of an African Farm”), the fall emerges softly from the delicate grey tones of drapery and background with subtle beauty, while In ,the. bolder treatment of “A Spanish Beauty,” Mrs Tennent shows great strength, and in contrast with her other work much versatility. In all her work there is the feeling of imagination and poetry and the desire to achieve the highest. Her technique is in my opinion masterly and taken as a whole the pictures should give much pleasure to all lovers of art. As so far I have, seen no appreciation expressed in your paper will you kindly give these few remarks space.—l am, etc., EMILY MOFFETT. December 22.
