The I’aloona reached Bluff at 1 p.m. yesterday, and discharged 83 packages tea. IS!) hags salt. 38 cases cartridges, 3 3 cases tobacco. M> c.iscs fruit, lea bags onions, 11" ! bags superphosphates. The I’aloona was to sail this- morning for Dunedin after loading 10 bales twine, ICO cases cheese, 67 sheep (tor AA ellington.i, and a uuantity ot sundries. The Invercargill called at Fort Chalmers , yesterday morning to load transhipments before coming up to Dunedin. The chartered steamer Ruapehu arrived at Dunedin on Saturday morning from the West of Kngland, via northern (New Zealand) ports. The Ruapehu left Liverpool on April it 7 in the early rooming, and made the first section of her voyage in excellent weather, arriving at Capetown on May 22. While at Capetown the officers saw the Rangatira, which is ashore there. r lhey i. would be impossible to get her olf. The steamer left Capetown on May 22, and made the trip to Melbourne with the same fine weather of the early voyage. Her Australian ports were Melbourne and Sydney, when the vessel left for Auckland. Heavy south-easterly weather the first two days delayed the vessel. Some big seas were shipped and got down into the forecastle. The Malta! from San Francisco wirelessed to-night that she was in thick weather and that the time of her arrival was uncertain. The CUy of Colombo arrived at OHIO p.m. fro.'u New York. THE WEATHER. SUMMARY AND FORECAST. WELLINGTON, July 17. The following is Mr D. C. Bates' weather summary for the past 21 hours; — Rain has fallen in most parts of the dominion, especially in the north, where a storm area has prevailed since Friday morning, but this has been neutralised to-day to ascertain extent by the development of westerly low pressure in the south. Present indications are for cold and changeable weather with rain in many parts of the dominion. Expect variable winds, moderate to strong, south to south-westerlies prevailing northward of Farewell Spit ami Kaikoura, west to Bouth-westcriies elsewhere; barometer unsteady, with a rising tendency soon.
