CHEESE FOR THE ARMY
NEGOTIATIONS FOR THE OUTPUT. (Special to the Times). WELLINGTON, July 14. Representatives of the cheese companies of the dominion waited upon the Prime Minister to-day and conferred with him regarding the proposal to commandeer the whole of the cheese output for the coming season. There were upwards of twenty representatives present. It is understood tliat in the representations made to the Prime Minister emphasis was given to the Increased cost of tlie production of cheese under present conditions, and BJd for first grade cheese delivered at freezing works was indicated as a reasonable price. Mr Massey stated that he- could not say whether the proposal would be acceptable to the Imperial authorities, but he promised to communicate with the latter on the subject. The following committee was ap- ! pointed to continue the negotiations 1 Messrs Powdrcll (Taranaki), Wise (Wairarapa), Jewell (Manawatu), Aiken (Cambridge), and Pacey, the last-named being the nominee of the South Island companies.
