WALZtACBTOWN STOCK SALE. PRICES WELL MAINTAINED. A GOOD YARDING. ■Yesterday's weekly stock sale was Held in glorious winter weather, and there was a large attendance of buyers, farmers, dealers, and other interested people. The sale was a good one throughout, and prices, all round, were well maintained. Following were the yardings yesterday and for the two preceding sale days:—

FAT CATTLE. There was a fairly good yarding, and the quality was good, notwithstanding the fact that nothing extra special was forward. The sale was a good one, but not equal to the one held a week previously, which was the best that has been recorded for a long time. 'The outside competition that was so noticeable at the previous sale was not present yesterday, but butchers and freezing operators were in evidence, and they kept things going remarkably well, albeit things were not quite so dear, a fact that was appreciated by the butchers particularly. Ox beef, 45/- to 46/- per IftOlbs: belter, 42/. to 42/6; cow, 40/- to it/-. FAT SHEEP. There was a fairly large yarding, inclnding a number of pens of really firstclass stuff. There was a goodly number of freezing buyers operating, and. altogether, a good sale was recorded, closing at prices that were even firmer than was the case last week. Extra ■pecial wethers to 38/6; prime, 33/. to 34/6; lighter, 29/- to 30/-; extra prime ewes, 25/- to 26/-; medium, 21/- to 22/6. STORK CATTLE. There was a fairly good yarding, the bulk of which was small young stuff. There were no big framed stuff forward, and prices ruled up to last week's quotes. As an indication of the demand (hut was evident, it may be staled that practically the whole of the yarding was •sold. There was only one pen of grass cattle which fetched £8 16/-, the rest of the yarding being small stuff. There was an entire absence of four-year-old grass bullocks, for which there are good enquiries. The yardings of store cattle that have been in evidence for a long time past indicate substantially that Wallacetown is now the best store cattle market In the South Island. STORK SHKEP. There was an exceedingly smalt yarding, and the prices in evidence were no Indication of what is ruling for tills class of stock. The tone of the market is distinctly good and quite equal to what was ruling at this time last year. Sales noted yesterday were:— By tie National Mortgage ft Agency Co. FAT CATTLE—Account D. rNTEBCABGTX.I HORSE MARKET. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report having held their weekly sale in the Invercargill Horse Bazaar on Saturday, and had a yarding of twenty-six horses, the majority being draughts of a very ordinary class, with a sprinkling of hacks and Imrness horses. The attendance was not large, and competition for ordinary horses anything hot buoyant, but for big solid horses suitable for waggon shafts and single dray work, there were several inquiries. This class at the present time is very difficult to locate, animals of the right stamp being particularly scarce. We quote good serviceable draughts £2O to £3O, extt*a £35; aged and stale, not saleable, excepting at very low prices. We sold a very nice 3-year-old back, by Young McKinney, out of a General Tracey mare, at £l6; others at £7, £6, and downwards. We would recommend those having horses for sale by auction to send us particulars as soon as possible, so that they may be advertised. SHARE MARKET. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON. July 11. Stock Exchange mining quotations;— Murray Creek, sellers, 60/-; Murray’s Freehold, sellers, 23/-; Success, sellers, 30/-; Walhi, buyers, 36/9, CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. CHRISTCHURCH, July 11. Beyond a few sales that are taking place between merchants and millers, there is little doing in wheat. A few sales of Tuscan have taken place at 4/5 and 1/6 at country stations, and a mixed line at equal to 4/10%. There is a

good demand for fowl wheat, and the price has hardened lately by 6d per bushel. The wheat market generally is very firm. The oats market is also firm, but very quiet'. ■There are not many potatoes offering. Although the North Island demand is not very active any lots coming forward from growers are readily saleable at £6 10/- at country stations. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. SYDNEY, July 11. The price of bran has been fixed at £1 15/-, and of pollard at £5 15/- booked, and 5/- less for cash, ex mill. Sales of wool during the past twelve months show an improvement on the previous season. The average value is £l6 10/. a bale, the highest obtained in the Colonial markets. ~i MNROK MARKETS, WOOL SITUATION EASIER. (By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright) (Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, July 10. Received July 11, 5.35 p,m. Walhi shares —37/6 to 38/6. The wool situation is easier on the eve of the sales. Eleventh hour intervention by the Government is no longer feared. The position is stated to be satisfactory, and rapidly approaching normal. Steamers arrive regularly, and cargoes are handled with despatch. There is practically no congestion.
